massive slowdown while downloading

Post by Eldin »

SabNZBd 0.4.7
Windows Xp x32 sp3
Mozilla firefox
After i installed SabNZBd 0.4.7 i noticed the following problem: When SabNZBd is downloading or postprocessing my entire desktop slows down. even my clock runs slower, all processes are just severely slowed. Video and music go in slow-motion and as said all windows functions are going down.
I tried to go back to 0.4.6 (just overwriting with a new install after shutting down) but the problem remains.

Please someone help me on this it's quite annoying

Have you done any analysis to see what programs/processes are slow (Task manager)?
New virus scanner, new software firewall. Any other changes?

Your info isn't exactly helpful.

Do you know what hard drive you have? Are you running it on a laptop? What is the general spec of your system.

As shypike says, look at the task manager, processes list (ctrl+shift+escape), sort by CPU usage and see how much par2.exe or unrar.exe use during unpacking.

Possibly your cpu isn't fast enough or your hard drive, or even both.

CPU: dualcore AMD athlon x2 6000+
Memory: 2Gb
The drive that is downloaded to is a not so obviously branded SATA 250Gb disk with 32mb cache.

In taskmanager i see spikes where my CPU is loaded the full 100% (not continously and at random intervals. also when only downloading and not even post-processing) by random processes including PAR2.exe and Sabnzbd.exe
But as said in my previous post the problem started after i upgraded to 0.4.7 but persists after deletion and reinstall of 0.4.6
I've been using Sabnzbd since 0.2.5 and have never hadthis problem before. I did not install anything else and ran a full virus and malware scan wich came out clean.

If you need any more info please ask.

Thanks

Start SABnzbd with the --clean command line parameter.
This will remove the queue and the history.

If that doesn't help, remove the SABnzbd.ini file too.

An alternative is to start SABnzbd with a new data location.

Code: Select all

sabnzbd.exe -f /path/to/your/data/folder/sabnzbd.ini
As a last resort, go back to SABnzbd 0.2.5.
If that doesn't help, it must be something in your system.

I must make my apologies,

The problem wasan error in my memory that made the CPU Use 635 Mb of my total of 2gb memory. Downloading and post-process take a lot of memory so that is where the problems start.
Thanks for the kind help anyway,
