Same server, with an earlier package, I seemed to get better speeds. I don't have empirical data or anything, but I included that info as perhaps something changed a while back. With that machine I started on 0.5 or so.

Python has been installed/upgraded alongside sabnzbdplus via apt.
Size of queue does not affect CPU or speed.
python-yenc module is found according to the log.
# of connections doesn't make much difference

Weird, I have seen no slowdown over time for Windows and OSX.
I'll take another look at Linux.
The biggest problem is getting sufficiently old/slow hardware...

I have some old/older machines at the office. If youd like i can box up a couple that are sitting around doing nothing. They should be close to the single core 2.5 ghz model. I dont have anything thats 1.8 (i dont think) which is what the intel readynas runs but it should give you something to work with...assuming this is still a relevant topic.

Any info is welcome.
Such unexplainable speed issues are occasionally reported.

Layered Tech decided they couldn't honor my server rental price anymore, so I lost my server, however in IRC every once in a while someone reports the same issue.

I honestly dont have the time or background in sab to commit to testing but id be glad to pack up some hardware and fedex it to you. Basicly just a couple of mobo's w/ ram/cpu and maybe a HDD if needed. Enough to plug in and test but not enough to look pretty. Just let me know via PM if you want and where to send them. As usual, would be great if you could cover shipping but im not even expecting that much. You have a great product and Im more than happy to help in any way i can.

Hey guys I've also got a very high CPU.

The facts:
- OSX 10.8 (newest)
- SABnzbd 0.7.3 (newest)
- Python 2.7.1
- Mac Mini i5 2.3Ghz, Samsung 830 SSD, 8GB Ram (temp download on ssd)
- Download speed 10-12MB/s (yes Megabyte)
- 30 Connections to Usenetserver
- no speed limit setting

--> uses CPU up to 95%

Is this normal?

It's normal.
I have my doubts about Activity Monitor.
SABnzbd runs on Python, which can only utilize a single core.
My guess is that AM indicates that one core is used almost full,
so you still have the other core left (assuming you have more than one).
