Private newsnet group/index?

Post by aciid »

Hi, I have moved from torrents to usenet since I enjoy the speed and my ISP doesn't throttle usenet.
However I have noticed when searching usenet the majority of results are just spam/viruses/down right junk.

What I liked about torrents was the private trackers and communities on websites which allowed people to comment on files, requesting files etc, and especially allowed moderators to remove infected/fake torrents to keep everything nice. (Sites like Demonoid, pussytorrents, What.CD, etc)

I can't seem to find anything similar on usenet? I am obviously a newbie with usenet so go easy on me.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

See http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/nzb-sources for 'verified' sources.

BTW: you can recognize junk on binsearch.info too:
- "password required"
- poster with random letter combination
- posts that are too good to be true

Most non-raw-mode indexers already do what you want, by filtering out password-protected stuff. The vast majority of scummy stuff on usenet is password protected, and bundled with a "keygen" that is supposed to give you the password to the rar set that turns out to be malware. When you consider that nearly all of this password protected stuff is just a repack of some other release, it becomes easy to just drop anything that's passworded. So that takes care of that.

As for sites with a strong community that comments on everything, you just don't find much of that with usenet. Newzbin was that way ages ago, and you may find a decent number of comments over on binsearch, but for any of the more automated sites they might have a comment section, but you'll never see it used unless something is super wrong with a post.

But that's not necessarily a bad thing. In recent years, Usenet has trended towards complete automation of everything, so you're not spending your time manually hunting through index sites, instead you hand off what you want to Sickbeard or Couch Potato or Headphones or whatever and walk away.

This one reminds me of FTD community .... Has the same structure/layout :) Any connection ?

Edit: You can and http://www.nzb7.com/ to the free indexers. It's just another newznab site, but it seems "free" and without any limitation "for now at least". Haven't tested it much, but seems reliable ;)
