Question on how backup servers work

Post by joe_sun »

Hello I have a question on how backup servers work.

I'm using Giganews as my primary and I have a Highwinds block as my backup. Yesterday I downloaded something and it showed as having 35 blocks missing. I tried repairing but nothing worked so I got an idea and tried something. I opened quickpar and found which rar files had the missing blocks. I then went into the unfinished folder and deleted out the rar files with missing blocks then I went into SABnzbd settings and deactived my Giganews and set Highwinds as the primary. I then hit retry.

To my amazement it then downloaded all those rar files again, this time with all the blocks and the download was completed!

So I'm guessing I'm wondering if maybe I have something setup incorrectly, I assumed the backup server would have automatically tried to get the files with the missing blocks or does it only look for missing files altogether?

THANKS!

If setup correctly it should auto fill the missing parts. I'm guessing you need to change a setting to make sure highwinds is set as your primary fill server.

I have had this same experience with several different nzb's . Unfortunately I no longer have them available to send to you.
