Stuck Downloads

Post by Chuck »

I have had problems recently that I am not sure if I was having with earlier versions.

I use giganews as my provider and several NZBs have had a missing article.  This has left something like 0.38KB to download.  Still has the PAR2 left to download after but it seems to sit around trying to download the .38KB but not getting anywhere.  If it can't get the whole article shouldn't it give up and try and then repair or will it sit around and wait.  I end up with lots in the queue but waiting for .38kb to download of one.

Normally I get my NZBs from either Newzbin or binsearch.info.  I did have one set of NZBs from the same poster that didn't exist at all.

Unfortunately I can't send any logs as I am away and don't have access to my server.  I know it has got stuck again as it is not clearing bookmarks from newzbin.

Any ideas?

We have received a few such reports.
However, we have never received any usable logs or reproducible troublesome NZB files.

So, I'm not saying that what you say isn't true. There might very well be some problem
lurking in the code.
It's just that we have never been able to reproduce it, which is the first step in solving it.

Could you at least send the newzbin number of the NZB you suspect?
You can email it to bugs at sabnzbd.org

Sent you the report numbers a few days ago.

I read a few articles on the forums and on returning went back to one server only.  The download that had been stuck for a week then worked, it gave up trying to download and then fixed with the PAR2 correctly.

Did you have any joy with the email I sent.

I guess this should really be in bugs if you want to move it.

Thanks  :)

So far, there's only one hangup situation we can reproduce.

I sometimes can reproduce a hangup when an article is missing (on all servers) and
at the same time there is a non-responding server (when multiple servers are defined)
In that case, SABnzbd keeps trying forever on the dead server.

Is this scenario possible in your situation?

I think  the server is still responding as the way I had it set up is

1 localhost pointing at giganews accelerator - which then routes to Europe giganews i think
2 Europe Giganews
3 US Giganews

The reason I had it setup like that was that sometimes sabnzbd would start up before the giganews accelerator and until I logged in to the box it would get stuck trying to connect.  So I put the other 2 in as backups.

However when I had missing posts on all servers this is when it got stuck.  I think it would keep trying every so often. One set of nzbs had a missing article right at the start and this stopped all the downloads. This is repeatable if I have the multi server setup as described I think.

OK, that at least confirm my suspicions about the problem.
So it looks like we established the cause.
However this is a rather fundamental problem in the code we inherited from the old SABnzbd.
It will take quite some effort to solve it.
As soon as we do solve it, we'll publish a maintenance release.

Thanks for your help and patience.
