Check Before Download - Password Archives?

Post by DasFox »

Hi Guys,

Isn't one of the points of 'Check Before Download' to help with password protected archives so you don't have to deal with that crap?

Well if this is true it's not working all that great and I really hope in some future versions this can become more fool proof, because I think
this is really needed.

If it helps here's the last NZB I used that was password protected;

http://www6.zippyshare.com/v/54454138/file.html

I really hope this can be improved, because it sucks to sit and wait on a download to still be told it's password protected...

THANKS

Nope. That check just checks if the server claims to have the articles but cannot give info about the content of the download. Checks for encryption can only be done once you grab some actual content, i.e. a rar segment (setting 'Action when encrypted RAR is downloaded '). Unless you are suffering from very low bandwidth or restrictive quota, you probably just want to check for job viability on the fly too ('Abort jobs that cannot be completed').

So check mark also; 'Abort jobs that cannot be completed', that's all?

Does this help for password archives?

I sure hope something can be done to improve....

The two options are unrelated.
If SABnzbd can detect encryption at all, it will use the "Action when encrypted RAR is downloaded" option to decide what to do.

So all that can be done is just use; 'Check before download'?

No, if you want to avoid encrypted archives, set ""Action when encrypted RAR is downloaded" to "pause" or "abort".
"Check before download" has a completely different purpose.

Ok, well, it's already on a Default setting of pause and this rarely does much good...

In my past experience it works 1 out of 10 times, it's not really helpful at all.

So can't this be improved upon so when a passworded archive is detected it's stop when the first rar is downloaded?

I'm not sure why this can't work?

If you accidently get an NZB with a password protected archive, the first rar is password word protected, or any rar for that matter that gets downloaded, so why would this not work everytime in the very beginning with the first rar it downloads and stops the download then?
