can't start sabnzbd [raspi]

Post by v-enom »

hi,

i'm running sabnzbd on raspberry pi with raspbian. sab works fine for months. since yesterday i can't open the webif and sabnzbd don't start when raspberry starts. when i connect to ssh and try start sab with "sudo service sabnzbdplus start" there is an error

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo service sabnzbdplus restart
[ ok ] SABnzbd+ binary newsgrabber: not running.
[FAIL] Starting SABnzbd+ binary newsgrabber: failed!
i changed nothing at the system. any idea whats wrong?

venom

edit
it's version 0.7.16. i had the same problem with version 0.7.17 beta 2 last weekend. i restored an older imge and could "fix" the problem. know i have the problem again.
edit1
uninstall and reinstall sab doesn't work.

Check what is in the log file.
Normally this resides in $HOME/.sabnzbd/logs

in .sabnzbd/logs/sabnzbd.log there are only logs from dezember 2013. the raspbian-image i restored last week was created january 2014, the last time i used sabnzbd befor was dezmber 2013. it seems after i restored sab last week and used it for a few days there are no new logs.
File "/usr/share/sabnzbdplus/cherrypy/_cpwsgi.py", line 79, in setapp
s, h, b = self.get_response()
File "/usr/share/sabnzbdplus/cherrypy/_cpwsgi.py", line 219, in get_response
response = self.request.run(meth, path, qs, rproto, headers, rfile)
File "/usr/share/sabnzbdplus/cherrypy/_cprequest.py", line 579, in run
raise cherrypy.TimeoutError()
TimeoutError
this is something i can read in logs since i used sab for the first time, but it was never a problem. i don't know what i means.

in sabnzbd.error.logs is only this
fork() failed
fork() failed
fork() failed
fork() failed
fork() failed
fork() failed

Fork failed is pretty serious.
Remove the logs and try again so that you know what happens now.
You would need the help of a platform expert for this
and/or the package creator.

On the raspi, type:

Code: Select all

free -h
uptime
and post the output here.

EDIT: You have tried a reboot, haven't you?

You have the 256MB Raspi? So, the old model?
SABnzbd loves RAM, and 256 MB might be too little.

About the log file: isn't there anything after the "Web dir is"-line?

How did you start SABnzbd? As a service, or from the commandline? For fault analysis it's better to run sabnzbdplus from the command line (first stop the sabnzbdplus server). If a system problem occurs (like the fork-problem), it will be shown on the command line. Post that output here.

no, its the 512mb version. sab works very stable since end of 2012. i have the problems since 1 1/2 week and i didn't change anything at the system.

after the "web dir is" there is only the path.

normally sab should start at boot, but now it isn't running. i can't stop sab with "sudo service sabnzbdplus stop", because it doesn't run. when i start sab there is the message i posted in my first post.
If a system problem occurs (like the fork-problem), it will be shown on the command line. Post that output here.
ok, i can start sab with command line. maybe the problem is just the autostart? but it worked all the mounth befor. i don't understand whats wrong now.

this is the output

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~/.sabnzbd/logs $ sabnzbdplus

512MB and if you have only 216MB available. Weird. Check this:

Code: Select all

sudo raspi-config
Select "8 Advanced Options", then "A3 Memory Split". What does it say?
Set GPU to 64, or - if you don't use graphical stuff - 16 MB. Leave raspi-config and reboot. Then check again:

Code: Select all

free -h
Post back the results.

Here's my result:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ free -h
             total used free shared buffers cached
Mem:          485M        72M       413M         0B       9.5M        30M
-/+ buffers/cache:        31M       453M
Swap:          99M         0B        99M
pi@raspberrypi ~ $

Swap:          99M        21M        78M
but the speed is very bad now i.e. connecting to ssh with putty. i've installed nzbget and pyload too, and both starts with raspberry boot. maybe more than 16mb ist better? i use ssh only.

So 512 - 32 - 232 = 248 MB is lost / gone / vanished. Do you agree on that?

This is what my dmesg shows:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ dmesg | grep  -e MiB -e Memory
[    0.000000] cma: CMA: reserved 16 MiB at 1e000000
[ 0.000000] Memory policy: ECC disabled, Data cache writeback
[    0.000000] Memory: 496MB = 496MB total
[    0.000000] Memory: 480416k/480416k available, 27488k reserved, 0K highmem
[    1.027183] vc-mem: phys_addr:0x00000000 mem_base=0x1fa00000 mem_size:0x20000000(512 MiB)
[    1.328520] vc-cma: vc_cma_size      = 0x00000000 (0 MiB)
[    1.336099] vc-cma: vc_cma_initial   = 0x00000000 (0 MiB)
pi@raspberrypi ~ $
So: 512 MiB physical memory. And about 480 MB available.

What does your dmesg say?

To be honest, I would do this: Get a fresh SD card, format it, put a fresh raspbian on it, and run the free-command again. Reason: there is something strange wrong with your setup.
