Download Buffer being filled and not emptied anymore

This is a weird behavior I'm seeing with 0.4.6 (I cannot remember having it seen before but I have not used all of the 0.4.X releases either).

Basically, I have allocated a rather big chunk of RAM (round 200MB) to reduce disk trashing which used to work quite nicely (download 1 part to buffer, write it down to disk, go on to the next one etc) but lately it starts just filling up the buffer completely and then writing individual articles to the disk which obviously results in the disk trashing I was seeking to avoid... (and BTW, it is not because the parts are bigger than the RAM cache, even with 1G RAM cache it happens eventually)


I hope it is clear what I am describing but please feel free to inquire.

Edit: This is on Ubuntu 8.10 in case this matters.

One explanation is that one of the program's threads crash.
Does it happen with specific NZB files?
Do you have log files available (preferably at Debug level)?

I would see thread crashes on the console right? I have not noticed any such thing yet... Debug output is hard to capture at full wirespeed...

The debug output is stored in the log files (alas, except for crash reports).

Crash reports are visible in the console, but when downloading is still
active, it will quickly disappear of the screen.

With the current information, there's nothing we can do.

Might in fact be NZB file related as it has not happened in the past 16 hours... I'll try to see if I can get debug information next time I come across it. Thanks!

Could you email a suspected NZB  to [email protected] ?
It would help us diagnose (and possibly solve) the problem.
