Checking/repairing downloads with builtin extremely slow

Post by mad99 »

Hey forum,
I am currently using v0.7.20 and since the update to tis version, the download are checked very slow by the builtin par. To be sure it is not because of a dieing HDD, I moved the temp folder to a different HDD but ist still slow as hell.RAM is not a problem, as there is currently a usage of roughly 50% of the installed 8GB physical memory. The CPU is a AMD quadcore Athlon Phenom II X4 955, cpu usage of all 4 cores is close to 100% each.
Cpu usage was high before, but checking /repairing was way faster with the previuos version.
Sometimes the builtin par fails to repair even though external QuickPar can easily repair the same files and way faster.
Is there a newer better builtin par available for SabnzbD ?
or is it possible to use the external Quickpar or Multipar?

P.S.: I am talking of hours for checking and fixing...

Extensive repairs are always slow.
We're already using a multi-core (par2-tbb) variant (unless you disabled it).
QuickPar cannot be used at all.
Have you benchmarked multipar against par2-tbb, since you claim it's faster?

But its the check which is extremly slow as well, not only the repair.
I havent done an exact benchmark, just been watching it
I had one example where checking took several hours and the repair with quickpar was done in less than one hour.
Multicore is enabled
Thx for your reply, I will live with it :-)

QuickPar is indeed faster.
It has a couple of problems.
Closed source by an author isn't maintaining it.
Windows only.
Absolutely impossible to use in an automated system.
The last one is the killer of course.

Again, thanks for reading and trying to help.
Fortunately everything runs in fully automated mode, so time is not a big factor, just curious if something is/was wrong.
thx
