Hello,
I'm having trouble with square brackets ([]) in my file names. I used to access the stuff sab downloaded through ftp, but now sab leaves the square brackets in the filenames. And apparently my ftp server/client does not like those brackets. Has anyone any clue how to fix this, is there some hidden rename/filter option in sab, or some nice third-party script?

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.
We will probably ask you to do a test using only basic settings. - Do you experience problems during repair or unpacking?
Enable +Debug logging in the Status and Interface settings window and share the relevant parts of the log here using [ code ] sections.

SABnzbd doesn't suddenly leave square brackets in filenames, it never removed them.
Only truly illegal characters are removed (very few).
The difference is that you recently started downloading stuff that contains those characters.
I'm afraid you need to look at your ftp software.
Or write your own renaming script...
