SabNzbd Shutdown, then restart.

Post by goldstarqc »

Hi, my sabnzbd is doing something weird, when i'm downloading any NZB from anywhere, Sabnzb display 'Shutdown', then it restart, re-add the NZB that was in the qeue and continue downloading.  This is annoying because when this is happening, the browser re-open and I lost the focus of the window I was working in, also, it slow down my downloads because it really stops it and it take 5-6 seconds to restart each time.  This happen with 2 minutes intervals, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Version: 0.5.0 (final)
OS: Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Install-type: OSx .app
Skin :Plush
Firewall Software: None
Are you using IPV6? no
Is the issue reproducible? yes, but i dont know how to produce it, it just happen

Find the log files.
The most likely cause it that SABnzbd detected some internal problem
and decided to restart.
The log file is here: /home/user/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/logs/sabnzbd.log
You can open the file with TextPad.
Look near the end of the file, search for "Restarting".

Your log says:
Restarting because of crashed assembler
And this is in the title:
.REÄCK.1CD.par2
Probably should be REPACK, but the file name is garbled.

Does this happen for this specific NZB file?
If so, can you email the file to bugs at sabnzbd.org ?

Two possible causes:
your "temporary download folder" has a problem or contains non plain ASCII characters.
One of the downloaded filenames contains a bizarre characters.
Both of these should be handled better, but as you see it looks like it isn't.

Yes we know.
Only having a hard time reproducing it.

Is the "Temporary Download folder" located on the local hard disk?
Or is it on some external device or network drive with a non-OSX formatting?

You may have read that we cannot reproduce the issue.
So you have to come up with more information than "me too".
Can you send the suspected NZB file to bugs at sabnzbd.org
(adding the URL of this post).
Do you have your "temporary download folder" on the internal hard disk?

Actually the shutdown of sabnzbd can happen when nothing is currently downloading, i log on my computer 5 minutes ago and sabnzbd was idle for 5 hours, it just restart itself 2 minutes ago. So I don't think this problem came with an nzb file, but, is that anything else that can help you ?

My both download and temp folder are located on my local hard drive

Spontaneous crashes are even worse to reproduce.
It will require some detective work on your part.
Can you examine the log file of SABnzbd (accessible on the "Connections" page)?
Otherwise look at the OSX system log.

When I look at your details some things are not set-up the smartest.
I would recommend making some changes :

* Always set FULL Paths
* Set MIN Free Space , to prevent the HDD from filling up
* Set the watch folder to an "END" folder , so something like : downloads/watch
As now sab will look in all subfolders in : downloads , so also in downloads/complete , downloads/incomplete .. and you never know what can happen when it finds a rar/zip
  /nzb/tar in these folders

There's this entry in your log: "WARNING::[interface:232] Authentication missing".
Is there any third-party tool trying to contact SABnzbd?
On the local system or another one?

This log show nothing odd (except for the above).

I always got this message since I use sabnzbd, don't know why, the only 3rd party app that I use is MyNzb, and it's only open a connection when I launch it.
